I understand, you like peace and love and you’re gonna change the world by singing songs from “Across the Universe” so it’s ok to throw it in there once every couple 1,000 pictures, but it’s ok, if you have a picture without it, people are not going to assume that you’ve given up on pacifism and righteousness and are now dedicated to a life of hatred and war. On the other side of the coin, sticking middle fingers up in pictures for no reason is so badass. I know not to mess with you cause you don’t give a crap what the world thinks. I’m sure we could hang out and be solid bros and do shots together and flip off the world together. Ease up on the hand gestures.

Ahhhhhh! There it is, the sign that winter is moving out, football is over and baseball season is back. Every mid to late February in Tampa when the Yankees gather together at George M. Steinbrenner field, it’s only the beginning of 7 months of what will be another exciting season. I’ll say that after winning the World Series last year, I’m pretty content with whatever they are able to accomplish this year, but I know that’s a lie. They lost some good players like Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui, Melky Cebrera, Chien Ming Wang, some players that have started with Yankees and I thought would never leave but I guess you have to move on. They got some great players too. Curtis Granderson can take over the leadoff spot and get on baseball to set the table for the lineup, or they can leave Jeter at the top like they did with Damon. Javier Vasquez gets a second chance with Yankees after a bad first go around. This time though, having been put in the rotation he’s being put in, with CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett and Andy Pettitte pitching ahead of him, Vasquez can fill the number 4 spot just fine. I think you can expect 12-14 wins from him. Chamberlain and Hughes have been a wondeful rotation-bullpen tandem, although I would like to see Chamberlain in the bullpen as someone who can eventually take the 9th down the road and Hughes in the rotation, I think they will plug Joba into that 5th spot and leave Hughes in the pen where he has been electric. Damaso Marte is also another reliever who performed in the playoffs last year and it’ll be nice to have him healthy for lefties with the loss of Coke. The infield, of course, remains unchanged and for good reason, this has been one of the most solid infields the Yankees have had in a while. A-Rod, Jeter, Cano are all solid defenders and having Teixeira over at first saving errors and saving games with his gold glove defense really goes a long way in getting wins for the pitching staff. The Yankees had some gains and losses, but the core of the team is back and I think they have to be favorites this year. Outside of the Yankees, I’d look out for the Mariners and Nationals. They sure cleaned up this offseason. The Mariners added Lee to a staff already containing Bedard and Felix Hernadez, that’s as good front end as you can get. They also added a good table setter at the top with Chone Figgins, him along with Suzuki and Griffey, who has always been one of my favorite players, I think the Mariners are ready to make some noise in the AL West. The Nationals also added some key players. Getting Wang from the Yankees, as well as Livan Hernandez back for a second time can be a good thing for their already solid staff of young pitchers that includes John Lannan and Stephen Strasburg, who I think we will see at some point this season. I’m not saying that the Nats will make a run for the NL East, that’s a tall order with the Phillies, but they took more steps to improve than other NL East teams, including the Mets, who will be relying on everyone to come back healthy and Bay to carry the offense in the expanse of Citi Field. I’m excited for the games to start again and ready for spring to get going which means this ridiculous amount of snow has to stop.

Wow haven’t posted on Tumblr in awhile. That means there’s only 14 weeks left. I think it’s crazy that in 14 weeks I’ll be halfway done with my college career. It makes me think about time and how funny it is. A day, like today, January 27th, can seem so long and May seem so far away. Yet when it’s all over on May 11th, I won’t be able to distinguish how long ago one moment was from another. It all seems to have flown by. For now, I’m just gonna think about the beginning of baseball season one month away and the end of the worst two months of the year, January and February. Seriously, what good comes from these two months?

The New York Yankees are World Series Champions once again. I almost didn’t know how to react last night when they won Game 6 against the Phillies, who put up a good fight. But it has since sunk in that the Yankees are once again on top of the baseball world. For some reason, I don’t have the same feeling I had after the Championships in ‘96, ‘98, ‘99 or ‘00. I guess it’s a different feeling watching the Yankees win. But nonetheless I am extremely excited that they won it all and cannot wait to be there tomorrow in the Canyon of Heroes, watching as the Yankees ride past on their float along with all the other Yankee fans. There is no better sense of unity among fans then that moment when they come past and you realize it’s happened again and you were all part of it in some way. Maybe not in the way Hideki Matsui or Mariano Rivera was, but by being a fan, being some part of this awesome season that culminated in a World Series win in the New Stadium. Congratulations to the Yankees and let’s enjoy this parade tomorrow!

Just want to say I’m pumped for the MLB Playoffs. The album, A Far Cry From Safety, features some songs that we’ve been playing for 5 years now so it’s been really cool to see them change and develop. Some songs came and went, and some songs were added down the road, but the feeling of seeing them all finished and polished and on CD is unexplainable. We released it on August 25th and played a release show at a restaurant on the Bay in Blue Point, Long Island. It was an awesome way to celebrate this album and end what has been a very productive summer for us. We’re working to write and recording our next album and looking to line a bunch of shows for next summer so hopefully our plans will work out. You can see a preview of the album over at our myspace at http://myspace.com/impactinfive . As for now, I’m back at St. John’s and finished with my first week of classes.

NO

NO

Went out and bought Green Day’s new album “21st...

Went out and bought Green Day’s new album “21st Century Breakdown” yesterday. Solid Album. No it’s not Dookie or Insomniac or Nimrod or whatever, but that’s ok. You can’t be successful or even good making the same album again and again. There are some really good songs on here. Both Viva La Glorias are good in different ways. ¡Viva La Gloria! starts out with a beautiful piano part with strings and then kicks into a nice Green Day jam. ¿Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl) sounds like it could be Misery off of Warning:, but it’s more developed and is a bit harder, which is good. Peacemaker is another gypsy type song, but again, it’s well done. There are some real good punk rock songs that remind me of Insomniac and Dookie. Horseshoes and Hand Grenades is just straight rock, Christian’s Inferno sounds like it could something from The Network, and Murder City and Know Your Enemy, although repetitive, are catchy and charging. I could go on but I’m not. I can completely understand why alot of people think Green Day have lost it and can’t be the “punks” they were 15 years ago, but at 36, with families and children who are almost graduating high school now, they just can’t be the same band they were. I’d hate it if my dad walked around singing about masturbation and slacking off. So I think the fact that they’ve been able to develop and still not lose what made them so good doesn’t mean they’ve lost it. At least i don’t think to the millions of people who will but their album and see them in concert this summer, including me.

impactinryan:

My favorite hockey team, the Washington Capitals start their playoff domination tonight against the NY Rangers. It kind of pisses me off that i’ve been a Capitals fan for the last 10 years, and people are just front running with them now, but whatever, I guess this means they have finally got to a level where they are good. Anyway, can’t wait for the next 2 months and playoff hockey!!

I guess the playoff domination starts in game 2

A.J./27 Days/Flight of the Conchords

The Yankees brushed off a 15-5 loss with a solid outing from A.J. Burnett in a 7-2 win against the Rays. Burnett had a no-hitter through 6 innings and finished off the night with 9 K’s through 8 innings. I’m excited about the pitching staff this year. Sabathia, Pettitte, Burnett and Chamberlain have been looking good and Wang will turn it around after two bad outings. It’s gonna be a fun summer.

27 days left until my summer break begins and I’m back with Impact, recording our first (and long awaited) EP, “A Far Cry From Safety.” It should be good. I’m very excited about that. But for now, I’m just grinding out 13 more days of classes and 5 finals.

Finally, going to Radio City Music Hall to see Flight of the Conchords tonight. They’re right up there with Tenacious D, which i got to see at MSG a couple years back, so I’m really excited about that tonight.

That’s all for now, Let’s go Yanks, take this rubber game

Home for Easter. I don’t think there are too many things you can do online that are more pointless than this. It’s great that you can bloat and pinch your face, make it look like heat vision or an x-ray, or if you’re talented enough, you can pull off making your face look symmetrical with the mirror. That’s fantastic, but who wants to see 35 pictures of someone making weird faces when it looks like they’ve entered a vortex. It’s not really a testament to how funny or creative a person is because it takes absolutely no work at all to sit there and take 35 pictures of you and a friend sticking your tongues out at the camera. Same with the iChat albums. The whole reason we have video chat is so we can actually see video of someone and talk to them. Who wants to see the picture highlights of that video chat. So we can all look back and say “Oh remember that, that was when you did that”? Seriously, there better things to use the internet for.

In other news, I got one day of class before Easter Break and 4 weeks left of class

Citi Field was good, but the New Yankee Stadium is a beautiful...

Citi Field was good, but the New Yankee Stadium is a beautiful piece of art. From the outside at Babe Ruth Plaza, Gate 6 with the Yankee Team Store and the Hard Rock Cafe and the main Gate, Gate 4 to the Lou Gehrig Entrance that plays Gehrig’s famous 4th of July speech on a loop, to the Great Hall and the Concourses, with tons of concession stands and a food court and a Yankees Museum and of course the field, which looks enough like the old Yankee Stadium, but with a huge scoreboard out in Center Field. The Yankees looked just as good on the field too, hitting 4 home runs, a three run shot by Jeter, two dingers by Mark Teixeira and one by Shelley Duncan. Pettitte was shaky but settled in and A.J. Burnett was lights our for 4 innings. I’m so excited for this season and I can’t wait to see this team play in this stadium. The season starts tomorrow!

First Citi Field, and now The New Yankee Stadium. Really? Really? This is necessary? This is why you can’t make a living off of being a philosopher, because you have to delve deep into the intricacies of meaningless things. I’m not saying that it’s a bad field or it’s pointless to study it because it has some meaning to some people, but only if you’ve got nothing else to do.

I like YouTube, I think it’s a great way for people who...

I like YouTube, I think it’s a great way for people who wouldn’t normally get exposure to put their videos out for others to watch, but only if people actually put things out that are worth watching. Fred does not fit into that category. If you haven’t seen his videos, presumably because you have dignity, it involves clips of him bitching about things like the weather and his kiddie pool sped up, giving him a high-pitched voice. As if the very idea of watching someone whine about pointless things isn’t bad enough, he has to make it sound like it’s being done by a chipmunk. The worst thing about this is that he has merchandise, has been featured on television shows, and the video above has almost 5,000,000 views. It’s amazing how popular you can get putting up worthless shit on the internet. Meanwhile people who have actual talent don’t get half the attention that Fred does. If anyone knows what appeal this garbage has, please let me know, because it’s embarrassing knowing that this not only comes from comes from a fellow human being, but that people eat it up.

Got out to Citi Field today to watch the first game ever played...

Got out to Citi Field today to watch the first game ever played there.
